The study also revealed that the smokers spend about less time in deep sleep than the non-smokers.
Naresh M. Punjabi, MD, PhD, FCCP at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, Baltimore, MD and the study’s author, said that: “It is possible that smoking has time-dependent effects across the sleep period. Smokers commonly experience difficulty falling asleep due to the stimulating effects of nicotine. As night evolves, withdrawal from nicotine may further contribute to sleep disturbance.”
EFFECT ON THE HAIR
We all know that hair growth from the sac-like structures that are found on the scalp called the follicles. The follicles require oxygen, vitamins, minerals and the essential nutrients for functioning in the right manner. These all help in triggering the hair growth. But, it is stated that smoking reduces the oxygen in the hair follicle and also reduce the nutrients on the skin. If the follicles do not function in the right manner, it results in the poor hair growth and loss of the hair cycle.

One of the major effects of smoking is that it reduces the number of nutrients getting on to your skin. This results in aging of the skin faster than the non-smokers. The skin will become dry and dull. If you are an active smoker, you can experience a premature aging of the skin between the ages of 10-20 years.
